Set in an acre and a half of lush tropical gardens with a large infinity edge swimming pool and overlooking brilliantly coloured paddy fields The Garden House is a haven of hospitality in this little known part of Southern Sri Lanka . It is within easy reach of the walled city of Galle , now listed as a World Heritage Site and close to the glorious beaches of the south coast. 

This 1870's planter's house has been carefully renovated and restored recently to provide a welcoming retreat which is luxurious yet informal. The emphasis is on relaxation with discreet but attentive service.

A Garden cottage and rooms can be booked on an individual basis or the whole house can be rented as a private villa. The Garden House is ideal for a family get- together, a group of friends or any special event. Everything can be arranged to make your stay perfect, whatever the occasion. The house comes fully staffed with experienced, English speaking manager, housekeeper, cook and outdoor staff. A full laundry service is available.

Meals and drinks can be taken in the shade of the large, south facing verandah overlooking the gardens and paddy fields. Locally caught fish and seafood with tropical fruits and vegetables are the ingredients of delicious and imaginative menus that change daily. Special diets can be catered for - just tell us what your requirements are and we will be pleased to adapt menus accordingly.

LOCATION

The Garden House is in the unspoilt rural village of Ginigala, approximately 10 kilometres outside Galle. The beaches of the Indian Ocean are just a ten minute drive away and the nearby airport at Koggala provides a regular airtaxi service to and from Colombo. Transport can be provided from any point of arrival.

For those who wish to explore there is plenty to see locally. Take a bicycle or a three-wheel tuk tuk along the back lanes and see village life unfold. There are temples galore often built in the most delightful settings.  Spend time in Galle Fort and walk the ramparts at dusk to witness a glorious sunset or visit Matara with its historic Dutch Star Fort and bustling shops and markets. For the enthusiast birdlife is colourful and abundant and gardeners will enjoy the wonderful variety of plants and trees. Visit the tea estates of Dandeniya or explore the tropical rain forest of Sinharajah.

Beaches in the area include Unawatuna with its beautiful sweep of bay for all year round swimming as well as many quieter spots such as Mirissa and Tangalle which cater for sunbathers, swimmers and surfers or pick your own deserted cove along the way. Boat trips, snorkelling and diving can all be arranged.

Ayurveda originated in India and Sri Lanka some five thousand years ago.  Meaning "The Knowledge of Life" it is an holistic system which restores balance in mind, body and spirit to create a sense of total health and wellbeing.

Massage therapy is available in-house from our own experienced therapist.  Consultations with highly qualified Ayurveda doctors and practitioners can be arranged. 

The Garden House is a perfect venue for yoga and meditation. Arrangements can be made to suit your particular needs.

The Garden House’s four en suite double rooms and separate Garden Cottage are designed to combine style with comfort.  Balconies and private terraces offer extensive views and each room is furnished with a mix of antique and individual pieces including king size four poster beds and cooling overhead fans.  Floors are of cool, polished cement or original Jak wood boards.  High vaulted ceilings give a sense of space and light.

Luxurious En suite bathrooms are furnished to a high standard with powerful showers and plentiful hot water.
