As you unwind, you will discover an atmosphere that blends in with
your every mood, as the surroundings cast a spell on everything
that moves.
n easy amble will
take you into a natural habitat, full of fresh fruit, rich in
agriculture and thriving with animal life. Butterflies in every
hue dance to the trilling of birds of a wide variety. Soothing
herbal massages are a norm in this faraway village. Kneading out
kinks, leaving you relaxed.
If you are the exploring type, the heart of this village will
uncover a host of things that will keep you occupied. An ancient
rock temple abound with cave paintings, bike rides down winding
country lanes, a lazy swim as you abseil into a natural
underground pool, a rocky ride on a bullock cart.
Or should you feel the need to spend your time indoors, chilling
out with a good movie, just relax, a giant television takes centre
stage in a room, in this colonial mansion. A large cupboard
crammed with an extensive collection of movies and music is at
your disposal.
Or if all you want to do is relax outside, reading a book off our
library, so be it. Just order a fresh juice of your choice or a
drink off the bar, to make it even more heavenly, and laze by your
own private pool.
And whenever your
hunger pangs toll, your personal chef will make certain to tempt
your taste buds like it has never been tempted before.
Location
Expect a sauna
of sorts once you descend the stairway off the airline! Katunayake,
where the Island’s International airport lies, constantly
maintains a warm, humid temperature! The terminal busses and
airport buildings however maintain a cool air-conditioned
temperature.
Upon collecting your baggage formalities are minimum, where you
are granted a tourist visa. Outside you will find the chauffer,
waiting to drive you to Hideaway, which is around 36Km or an
hour’s drive away.
Minutes away from the hustle of the airport and factories, is a
tranquil countryside with vegetation of coconut and paddy.
Regular little village
centres with larger town’s called
Minuwangoda, Gampaha and Yakkala are en-route. Most shops seem to
display their wares outside, adding colour to the already
colourful towns. Temples and churches together with vehicle and
bike showrooms are consistently found along the road.
I was closing on Hideaway, as the
countryside was much greener, gardens larger where a multiple of
colour and variety of trees grew. People seem more relaxed and
have an easy swagger in their walk rather than the brisk
townsfolk!
Dining
Though the doors of the dining
room you will see a back garden and a setting that is perfect for
alfresco breakfast or dinner. It can be as intimate and romantic
or as festive as you please.
The food will be totally catered to your taste with some prior
notice and at any time specified by you. Traditional walawwa food
of Sri Lankan rice and curry, continental or eastern. You will
find the chef as versatile as your taste buds, fickle.
The culinary ensemble at the
bungalow is diverse and caters to whatever a guest's palette is
accustomed to or even what they might dare to try. Guests can
reassure themselves that most of the ingredients that go into food
preparation at the bungalow are grown locally. The guests also
have the luxury of browsing around at the local village market and
hand picking whatever vegetable and fruits they will like to eat
or get cooked.
Breakfast is a choice of Sri Lankan (a 3 course meal in itself and
to be enjoyed at least once), Continental, American and English.
If you are staying just a few days, the management may request
your favourites in advance. The menu is very extensive but food
supplies are fresh.
Accommodation
The bedrooms are really mini
suites that will take your breath away if you have at least one
romantic bone in your body. Two large bedrooms called Sun and
moon (you will know why when you see the décor) and one smaller
bedroom called the star.The large antique four-poster bed takes
pride of place and once you lie in it you will probably not want
to leave it.
If the bedroom took your breath away, you had better take a deeper
breath before you enter the open-air bathroom. This carefully
designed epitome of rustic luxury is truly the highlight of the
place and you are sure to spend many memorable moments in it
especially if you have arrived with someone special. The open air
Jacuzzi in the center is perfect for a mellow candle lit evening
of soaking your cares away.
There is also a cozy bar complete
with any elixir you may desire, if you drag your self away to
socialize with your own fellow guests as this hotel does not give
out individual rooms but the place in whole.
Privacy is the operative word with the staff. They will leave you
alone or wait on you hand and foot as you decide.
