Heritance Hotels & Resorts, Aitken Spence Hotel's unique collection of resorts launched its first hotel in India with Heritance Madurai. Hertitance Madurai is a “resort in the city” built on 17 acres of lush green gardens, landscaped to make one forget their presence in the heart of this bustling metropolis. The hotel will cater to the ardent pilgrims and the demanding corporate clientele who visit Madurai to take part in the numerous temple festivals and the many events that the city plays host to.

Heritance Madurai is the former British Madurai Club where the Club House was designed by the world renowned architect Geoffrey Bawa which has now been fully restored by a Sri Lankan architect, Vinod Jayasinghe in keeping with the traditional architecture of the locality. The key elements of the Geoffrey Bawa club house such as the stone pillars, the roof and the stone flooring etc has been preserved in the restoration process.. The pillars and floors have been replaced with granite of the same colour. The main club house building comprises of  the main restaurant-'The Banyan', the coffee shop and the Bar-The original library will be retained and this block will have 8 Guest Rooms as well. The stone paved water body in front of the club enhances the entrance to the Public areas.

The main building is a continuation of the former club house and the main reception area is a new structure and developed in line with the ambience of the old club house. The entrance to the main reception will be through a porch which has decorative 18th century Chettinad Columns of Karaikudi, from where Mr. Bawa had acquired the materials for the original structure.

There is a decorative antique Chettinad door which focus the backdrop to the reception and is a very imposing sight adding the character to the Lobby.The Lobby area is open and provides a clear view of the main water body of the Hotel. The swimming pool which has been designed to replicate a Temple tank and was inspired by the Temple tank of the Thirumaya Temple. This is a unique creation and will be one of the major attractions at Heritance Madurai. The old Banyan Tree at the entrance to the pool provides serenity and a breathtaking view.
