Dalhousie-Chamba
- I went to Dalhousie & Chamba with the college trekking team in
the final year of my engineering course. We trekked around Dalhousie
first and then to Chamba. We went by train to Pathankot in Punjab and
from there went by road to Dalhousie. There was no destination for us,
we would just explore mountains - it was not serious trekking.
We went to Khajjiar
- a beautifull landscape centred by a small lake, near Dalhousie.
The real trekking
experience came when we reached Chamba - famous for beautiful girls.
We started to trek to a nearby hill through the forest and I somehow
got lost. The three friends went ahead over the ridge while I trekked
through the lower slopes. Finally we met at a village on the peak of
the hill. The scene was absolutely mesmerising as clouds went through
us and it started to rain. We took shelter in a village house. They
were not used to visitors. They offered us food and we were gald to
accept Dal-Chawal - it tasted good for two reasons - we were hungry,
and, eating in some remote village is so exciting for me.
We
then moved ahead to a higher mountain where, we were told, was an old
temple. So we boarded a state transport bus, not from the door but
from the back through a ladder to the roof. Some 50 people were
already there on the roof of the bus. The bus moved slowly, overloaded
and fighting hard the slopes of the mountains. We brushed many trees
and had to duck whenever a large branch came hanging in our way. The
one hour trip to the temple was something I can never forget in my
life.
We returned to
Chamba in the night and by then our accompanying teacher was worried.
Any way, Dalhousie Chamba is a nice place, though there isn't any
thing special about it, unless you are willing to explore the
mountains.
