We
operate two seasonal base camps on the Ganges from October
to June each year; Ganga River base camp, near Rishikesh
from September until the end of April and Tons River base
camp from May to June. Large tents with camp beds, a table
and chairs, safari showers and toilets ensure luxury
camping in a pristine river setting of silver sands on the
Ganges and amidst the pine forests of the Tons.
These
base camps are the nerve centre of a variety of outdoor
activities – white water rafting, canoeing/kayaking,
abseiling/rappelling, rock climbing, bouldering, bird
watching, angling and day hikes to nearby hill villages or
a yoga session on the banks of the Ganges. Many of our
longer treks or multi-day river trips originate or end at
these base camps. Our corporate team building exercises
are also conducted from these camps.
Location
These trips are based from the
Himalayan River Runners’ semi - permanent camp on the Ganga,
which is 250 Km north of Delhi and 17Km east of Rishikesh in
Uttarakhand. The tented camp is located on the largest
pristine silver sand river beach in the area, next to the
emerald green waters of the Ganga. Surrounded by thick
forests, abounding in a variety of bird and animal life its
tranquillity makes for a perfect weekend getaway from Delhi
to calm overworked nerves. A trip to the camp also makes a
convenient extension to other programmes in the area.
Expedition
We operate our multi-day river
trips in the western and eastern Himalaya and Trans –
Himalayan regions. There are trips for the first timer as
well as the more experienced rafter. All our multi-day trips
are self-sufficient as all equipment, food etc is carried on
the rafts. The river becomes the means and the raft the mode
of travel.
Trekking
Our treks
range from the easy, through moderate, to the challenging.
We can organize treks suited to your fitness levels and time
considerations. The treks we offer are off the beaten track
and have all been reconnoitred by us personally. Whilst
walking you do not need to carry anyting other than your own
water bottle and a waterproof jacket. The accompanying mules
and porters, cook and camp-help and an English speaking
guide take care of all the essential details so that you can
spend your time relaxing, taking in the scenery etc without
having to worry about the details of preparing a hot meal
and setting up camp!.
