Places of Interest

Shantiniketan is the embodiment of serenity and peace, far removed from the concrete jungle. Here imposing sculptures of Ram Kinkar Baij greet you at every turn of the road. Paintings of Nandalal, Abanindranath and Binod Bihari captivate your senses.
Uttarayan, the complex where Rabindranath lived, has a museum and art gallery.
Visva Bharati University at Shantiniketan, 2 km from the nearest railway station Bolpur, is now a centre of international studies and culture. The university is also open to visitors.
58 km from Shantiniketan is Bakreswar, famous for its natural hot springs. Massanjore is another get away from Shantiniketan.



Three km from Shantiniketan is Sriniketan, a centre for traditional handicrafts like batik (on leather, cloth and silk), pottery, weaving kantha embroidery and dokra tribal handicrafts.


Fairs and Festivals

Holi or Vasantutsav is the most popular festival here, observed with all colors and fervour. Paus Mela, which starts on the 7th day of the Bengali calendar month of Paus (around 23rd December), is another important annual festival of Shantiniketan. Besides other melas like Barsha Mangal, Halakarshan utsav, also attract enthusiasts to Shantiniketan.
