Kameng district with headquarters at Seijusa.
Pakke
Tiger Reserve is located in the East kameng District of Arunachal
pradesh with head quarter at Seijusa 21 km from Saibari in Assam off the
national Highway- 52. The total area of the Tiger Reserve is 862 Sq.
km bounded by Kemeng River in the west 7 North, Pakke River in the East
iterate boundary with Assam in the south. The area of present Pakke
Tiger Reserve was originally constituted as Pakke Reserve Forest vide
notification No.FOR/32/54 dated 01.07.1966 and was declared as Camo
Sanctuary vide notification No. For/32/54 dated 28.03.1977. Subsequently
it was declared, as Pakhui Wildlife sanctuary vides notification No. CWl/D/26/94/1542-92
dated 18.04.02, and finally it was declared, as Pakke Tiger Reserve
vides notification No. For/CWL/D/26/94/1742-91 dated 23.04.02 under
Project Tiger scheme of Government of India.
Administrative
set up: At present pakke Tiger Reserve
is under the administration of Divisional Forest Officer Pakke wildlife
Sanctuary Division with its Head Quarter at Seijusa, District- East
Kmeng, Arunachal Pradesh, comprising 2 ranges i.e (i) Seijusa wildlife
range with head quarter at west bank, (ii) Tipi Wildlife Range with head
quarter at Tipi in west Kameng District. Shortly it will be under the
administrative control of a field director, Project Tiger with a
proposal of 1 (one) more range at Bana under east Kmeng district.

Major Species -As per the champion and Seth’s
classification Forest type of Pakke Tiger can be classified as follows:

The major tree species include,
Terminalia myriocarpa (Hollock), Ailanthus ezcelsa (Barpat),
Duabhangagrandiflora (Khokan), Canarium resinferum, Trewia nudiflora,
Tetramelus nudiflora, sterculia villosa, macropanax dapermus,
syzigiummacrocarpum, garcinia species, quercus lamaliosa, castonopis
indica, phoebe goalparensis, amorawallichii, ailanthus grandis,
pterspermum scerifoloium, dillenia indica, artocarpus chaplas, bischofia
japonica (uriam), albizia procer and bambox ociba (simul).
The important bamboo
species are Dendroclamus hamitonii, bamboosa pelida and pseudostachym
polymorphism. The cane species are calams crectus, calamus tenuis
calamus flagella.
Major fauna in the Tiger Reserve and
Status:
Tiger , leopard, clouded
Leopard, jungle cat, wild dog Jackal, Himalayan Black Bear, Biturong,
Elephant, Gaur, Samber, Hog deer, Barking Deer, Wilboar, Yellow throated
martin, Malayan Giant, squirrel, Flying squirrel, squirrel, civet,
cappedlangur, Rhesus macaque, assameseMacaque, Bison etc. The presence
of stamp tailed macaque has been reported by one researcher.
Avi fauna:Hornbill,
white winged wood duck, Jungle Fowl, Peacock Phesant, Khaleej
Pheasant, Dove, Barbets, Drongo, Scrpent eagle, Baaz eagles etc.

Important
events in the past 2 (two) Years: - With
the initiative of the officers and staff of Pakke Wildlife sanctuary
Division four village Forest Development Councils were constituted in
fringe area of the Protected Area for Protection and conservation of
wild life & Forests. A result protection of wildlife has been brought
into full scale with active involvement of local people and NGO’s of
international repute like WTI/WWF etc. To reduce the traditional use of
Hornbill beaks on the head gear of local people, artificial fiber beaks
were introduced 7 distributed to the local people which got very good
response.
