Satpura National Park is
located in south Hoshangabad district in Madhya Pradesh. The 524 Sqkm
Park is the core area of the Panchmarchi Biosphere Reserve that includes
Bori wildlife sanctuary to its south-west and Panchmarhi wildlife
sanctuary to its north-east. The park has an elevation of 320-1,352m
with tall sandstone mountains, narrow gorges, ravines, waterfalls,
streams and dense forests near the Mahadev hills in the Pachmarhi
plateau. The area boasts of two unique species of treed – the sal and
the teak besides wide varieties of ferns, mango trees, butterflies and
birdsSatpura National park does
not conduct guided tiger-spotting tours. However the tigers are spotted
at Madai, Churna, Dhal and Paraspani.Jeep Safaris are available in
limited numbers. For animal sightings take the Tawa-Doopgarh circuit of
60 km from the edge of the Tawa Reservoir in the plains of Churna in
Bori Sanctuary to Doopgarh which is the highest peak in the Satpura
Range. The sunsets are simply stunning with the beautiful surroundings.
The park can be accessed via kuchcha road from Panchmarhi to Panarpani
and Neemghan and there is also a jungle route through Rorighat gate

Biosphere therefore at least 3-4 days are taken to complete 200-km
circuit. Satpura National park has mammals including
tiger,bison,sambar,gaur,giant squirrel,nilgai,cheetal,flying squirrel
and dhole.One is likely to find birds such as Crested serpent eagle,
honey buzzard, black eagle, Malabar pied hornbill, paradise fly catcher

is not easy to spot wildlife in the reserve which makes it all the more
rewarding when you do. However, wildlife that can be found here includes
gaur and giant squirrels, chital, sambar, blackbuck, nilgai, tiger,
panther, bison, flying squirrel, dhole, crested serpent eagle, honey
buzzard, black eagle, Malabar pied hornbill and paradise fly catcher.
The best wildlife spotting locations are Madai, Churna, Bori, Dhai and Paraspani.
There is also plentiful flora to see.
Other attractions within the reserve include rock shelters and ancient
rock paintings, some of which are over 10,000 years old.

How to Reach
By Air: The nearest airport Bhopal
is connected by daily flights to all Indian Metros. Most resorts have
pick-ups facilities. MP Tourism also arranges pick-ups on advance
notice.
By Rail: The nearest railhead is at Pipariya from where one can
take either taxi or bus.
By Road: NH69 to Hoshangabad, state road to Panchmarhi via
Pipariya.MP tourism operates coaches between Bhopal and Pachmarhi.Day
