Rajasthan is known for different schools of paintings such as Jaipur, Udaipur, Kishangarh, Bundi, Kota, Jaipur, Nathdwara etc but the subject of all the schools of art is mostly common but the art of Phad paintings of Shahpura (Bhilwara) is quite different from other schools of art. Phad paintings are approximately 600 years old art and these phads are important part of Rajasthan's folk culture. Phad refers to a long cloth on which the painting is done. Each phad painting represents a folk story and often accompanied by songs performed by priests called Bhopas. Shahpura Phad paintings are based on mythological tales on lives of Hindu gods such as pabuji,

devnarayanji, Lord RAM and several other historic events are painted on phad. Renowned family known as "Joshi family of Shahpura" is doing these paintings since many generations and keeping this art alive. There work in restoring and preserving is tremendous and this art is been recognized not only in India but also abroad.
